Remains to be Seen LLC. - The Art After Life
Unique
& Affordable Cremation Memorial Solutions
Losing a family member is never easy, and deciding what to do
for a lasting memorial can be equally challenging. With cremation services
becoming the popular alternative to traditional burial, you now have some
choices. You can do what’s always been done and keep your loved ones cremains
in a decorative container, or choose something more personal.
Introducing; Remains to be Seen, an affordable and unique way to
use cremation ashes (or other remains) to memorialize your family, friends or
beloved pets! We have developed a process whereby a small amount of cremation ash
(or other remains) is gently mixed with pigments to become part of a
commissioned memorial painting. Each stroke of each color is layered one after
another to become a soulful tribute that will have a special place in your home
and become a family heirloom for generations to come.
Our Story
The idea came to me when I saw an
old bumper sticker that read, “This bumper sticker was printed with ink that
was mixed with the ashes of Mount St. Helens.” Pondering the bumper sticker and
knowing my wish was to be cremated when I die, I thought, I could have my
cremation ashes mixed with paint and have a memorial painting commissioned. I
could then leave this painting for the loved ones that I left
behind, and it might eventually become a family heirloom.
When I told my friends and family, some
thought it was a bit odd, but they also realized what an incredibly
unique idea it was for a proper and beautiful memorial. Well the idea was
just that, an idea, and it stayed locked in the back of my head for
years. However, recently I was laid off and I decided I did not want to go
back to another corporate cubicle for another decade, so I presented the
idea to a beloved artist friend and Remains to be Seen LLC. was born.
We believe that having cremation ashes in an urn or keeping other remains
is a good way to remind yourself that your loved one has left this realm, but
when you choose to use them in artwork, it's a vibrant and unique way to
transform those remains and remember that they lived.

10 Unique Ways to Handle Cremated Remains
10 Unique Ways to Handle Cremated Remains
Today, the sky's the limit (literally) when it comes to cremated-remains options
1. “Cremated Creation” - Commission a Piece of Memorial Artwork
If the idea of keeping an urn filled with cremated human
remains on a fireplace mantle feels cliché, then consider hanging a beautiful, original painting above
that space instead.
Introducing; Remains to be Seen LLC., an affordable and unique
way to use a small portion of cremation ashes (or other remains ) to memorialize your family, friends or beloved
pets! They respectfully mix a very small portion of your loved ones remains
into paint to create a unique, handcrafted memorial painting that will have a
special place in your home and will become a family heirloom for generations to
come. Contact them today at www.theartafterlife.com or call 410.299.4645
2. Planted as
a Tree
Whatever
your motivation the Memorial Tree Urn is
a beautiful idea. Knowing that the remains of your loved one are being used to
nourish the young sapling as it grows into a majestic oak, willow, cherry or
one of the other 32 trees they have available.
3. The Rockets' Red Glare
Two companies have given new meaning to the phrase, "Going out with a bang." As part of a special memorial service, Angel's Flight and Heavens Above Fireworks will set off a brilliant fireworks display worthy of an Independence Day celebration. Unlike the rockets fired on July 4, however, these specially made fireworks include a small portion of cremated human remains. Heavens Above Fireworks offers this service for a beloved cremated pet, as well.

4. Get Inked
Countless people have asked a tattoo artist to mix cremated human remains with the ink before applying a special memorial tattoo somewhere on their bodies. If you're interested in this form of "living memorial," however, you'll need to do your own legwork. Because of fears concerning how an individual's skin might react with cremated remains, among other things, you won't find providers listed openly in the Yellow Pages.

5.
The Sands of Time
Cremation containers have progressed a great deal since the days of the basic urn-form. Today, it's possible to purchase a cremation container in the shape of almost anything -- even the likeness of President Barack Obama. Perhaps one of the most "useful" urns, however, is theLifetime Hourglass Cremation Urn, sold by In the Light Urns. As the company's website notes, an hourglass is the "ultimate symbol of the passage of time," and with the actual cremated remains of a loved one serving as the sand in these functional hour glasses, you will probably agree!

6. You're All Wet
Coral reefs provide a crucial habitat for marine species, but like many types of environments on the planet, the health of these ecosystems faces numerous challenges, many of them man-made. Fortunately, it is now possible to mix cremated human remains with concrete, form the mixture into "reef balls" and other formations, and then submerge those structures under water for the benefit of all life. Many companies provide these services, including Eternal Reefs, Great Burial Reef, and Ashes on the Sea.

7. Heart of Glass
Creating unique, beautiful shapes from hand-blown glass takes tremendous skill and practice, but numerous such artists have taken their talents a step further by incorporating a small portion of cremated human remains into their works. The resultant glass orbs, pendants, globes, marbles, spheres, hearts and even oil candles are lovely to behold and will become cherished works of art and memorialization. If this idea appeals to you, you should have little difficulty locating providers, such as Solstice Glass, Memory Glass, Remembrance Art Glass Memorials and others.

8. A Girl's Best Friend
You might remember from your high school chemistry class that diamonds form when carbon is subjected to high temperatures and tremendous pressure. And if the lessons you learned in biology class still remain with you, you'll recall that the human body consists of roughly 18% carbon. Thus, companies like Life Gem, Remembrance Diamonds and others can create genuine diamonds from the cremated remains of your loved one. Once created, these diamonds can be set into rings, necklaces, earrings and other types of jewelry.

9. This Urn is "For the Birds"
As noted above, cremation containers no longer conform to the usual "urn form" and can also serve practical uses. Cremation Solutions and Mainely Urns and Memorials, among others, offer great examples of this with their wood and ceramic birdhouse-urn collections. Perfectly suited to housing cremated human remains, once scattered, these empty birdhouse urns can provide shelter for our feathered friends, whose ability to soar skyward often evokes contemplation of our earthly bonds and the division between life and death.

10. "We're Made of Star-Stuff"
Human beings have probably felt the urge to travel into space for nearly as long as primitive peoples have gazed at the stars and the night sky. Ever since Celestis launched the cremated remains of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and 23 others into space in April 1997 on its inaugural flight, the concept has captivated people worldwide. With services that carry "a symbolic portion of cremated remains to space" starting at $995, it is easy to understand the appeal. Who wouldn't want his or her earthly remains to venture into the final frontier!

Losing a family member is never easy, and deciding what to do for a funeral or memorial service can be equally challenging. With cremation services becoming the popular alternative to traditional burial, you have some choices. You can do what’s always been done and keep their remains in a decorative container, or choose something more personal.
Introducing "Remains to be Seen: The Art After Life", a unique and original way to use cremation ashes (or other remains) to memorialize your family, friends or beloved pets! This concept is for those who want a lasting celebration of their loved ones’ memory.
Our team of talented artists respectfully mix a portion of the remains (or other remains—see our commission outline) into paint and then use it to create a unique, handcrafted memorial that will become a family heirloom for generations to come. Having ashes in an urn on a mantle or keeping other remains is a good way to constantly remind yourself that your loved one has died, but when you use them in artwork, it's an amazing and unique way to transform those remains and remember that they lived.
About the Process - How do we start?
1. After you contact us, we will complete an in person or phone consultation (contact us). During the consultation please tell us all about your loved one. Examples of what we want to know are; what were they like as a person, their personal style, where they loved to vacation, where they loved to spend their time, favorite colors, favorite shapes/patterns and what they loved most about life. Also if you are requesting a portrait you will need to e-mail us a digital image of your loved one. The digital image you provide must be full size and at least 100dpi. The better quality the more detail we will have to work with, which will help with the finished result. We do prefer the digital formats of JPEG, TIFF, PNG, or PSD file.
2. Next, you will need to choose a size and one of our special commission pieces and we will immediately start to build a concept and design and incorporate that information into your customized, hand-painted piece of art. (see pricing).
3. You will need to send us your loved ones remains. Your funeral home/cremation service can provide you the remains in more than one container, if you don't want to handle it yourself. We only require approximately 2-5 ounces of your cremation remains, unless otherwise agreed to for an oversize piece. If you are in the Baltimore Metro Area, we would be happy to pick up the remains for you. If further away than 30 minutes, you can ship them in a sealed plastic container (a clean pill or spice bottle will work). We will return any and all remains that are not used and we are VERY careful to handle them respectfully (with gloves) and we work carefully to ensure that only the amount needed for the art is kept and that none is wasted. When sending the remains, please include a pre-paid, return label for shipping so we can return any unused remains. Postal Regulations exist only for the transportation of cremated remains when mailing the entirety of the remains. There are no specific regulations regarding the transportation of the very small amount of cremated remains.
*If you are choosing our What Still Remains Painting or Spirit Sculpture Painting, please carefully pack all remains separately in bubble wrap and ship. We are not responsible for any damaged or lost items during shipment.
4. Once we receive your remains we will send your billing invoice from “Remains to be Seen LLC.” via e-mail. The e-mail will contain a link for you to make your payment with any major credit card through PayPal.com. Your order will be logged in the order it was received based on the day the invoice is paid (not the day the invoice is sent). *If paying by check, there will be an address in the e-mailed invoice to mail a check, although this does slow down the process, since we will have to wait for the mail.
5. Delivery / Shipping Info: Since we are on the East Coast we can deliver if you are not more than 1 hour from our studio in Gwynn Oak or Bel Air Maryland. If we do have to ship there is an additional shipping fee that will be applied to your bill. These typically range from $25 - $75 depending on what you order, where it's going, and the weight.
6. Finally we will contact you to answer any additional questions you may have for us regarding your commission. We will also let you know the date of completion and arrange delivery. Once completed we can provide a digital image proof and we will offer one free touch up, any other adjustments will have a small $25.00 fee attached.
